I just read the news on CNN. Link is to a pretty good biography.
I know there is, and was, great variance in how people viewed his policies, but I don't think anyone can deny how he always belived in the greatness of the American Dream and the American people [ no offense intended to any other nationalities present]. The values he upheld are sadly lacking in today's society. I doubt we will see someone of his stature any time soon.

I have never been a fan of Mr. Reagan's politics, but you could never deny his sincerity, his congeniality, his vibrancy, or his popularity. He honestly earned the nickname "The Great Communicator"...my b/f and I just happened to be talking about him last week, and we both think that what this country needs right now is someone like him, a cheerleader who makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I actually feel a great sense of relief on his behalf...advanced Alzheimer's disease is an ugly thing, so it's good to know that his suffering is over. May he rest in peace!

He was the greatest President in modern times. Whether you agreed with his policies or not, he accomplished a great deal and helped return America to the doldrums it was in from Carter. He also helped end the Cold War. I know I'm only hitting the tip of the iceberg of his accomplishments. He knew how to be President.
It is a shame he had to go this way, being out of it really for the past 10 years.
He is the last President who wasn't guided by ulterior motives. I haven't been able to trust anyone since. I feel in many ways what Reagan built up has been ruined by the succeeding presidents.

Even if you don't agree on his policies, the world has a lost a great former leader.

Everyone is so right. He was and will always be remembered as a great man. He really did care about the US and its people, something that is hard to find in today's politicians. Though I really had no dispute with anything he did, I know others did, but you cannot please everyone. I feel even the people that may have disagreed with him in the past will miss him.

He was a great man.

Koasati.....yeah, i agree with you. Although i am a Brit, i always admired the way he handled himself. He always appeared a very friendly and genuine sort of guy. He had an aura of warmness about him that went out to people. He will be sadly missed for those qualities and many more. Like you said, R.I.P Mr President

He was an honorable man. You can't say that about too many politician's out there. Rest in peace. History will have a hard time trying to taint his life story.

Ronald Reagan was one of America's most popular and well-loved presidents of modern times. Though not everyone did or does agree with his policies, he was a great orator that made you feel good to be an American. God Bless him and his family.

Reagan's popularity only proves one thing, an actor is your best choice for a president.  We should elect Morgan Freeman president, he was great in that role in Deep Impact.  I doubt he would dismantle the public health system, ignore a raging outbreak of a deadly virus like AIDS or viscously attack the poor and the working class, wreck the economy and produce a record national debt. But even if he did we'd all remember him as a great president.

Frankly, I don't expect there to ever be another American president... I hope I'm wrong but I think the Republicans are gonna just declare themselves permanently in power and toss out the concept of free elections. And we'll all say what a great president and yes of course it had to be this way because of those pesky terrorists... Democrats after all are just liberal treasonous terrorist sympathizers and should be all killed (according to Rush Limbaugh himself, though he did say we should keep one or two alive to remind the Fatherland's good people what monsters they were).

The one thing GW shares with Reagan - Reagan was also a terrible Governor just before becoming President. I lived in California at the time and I actually was afraid Reagan was insane.  We need to hire better actors as President, it's the only way to keep the people from realizing they're being taken for fools...

Don't mean to offend anyone, you're welcome to your own opinions.

Gee, David....I never realized you were such an optimist...
