I just read the news on CNN. Link is to a pretty good biography.
I know there is, and was, great variance in how people viewed his policies, but I don't think anyone can deny how he always belived in the greatness of the American Dream and the American people [ no offense intended to any other nationalities present]. The values he upheld are sadly lacking in today's society. I doubt we will see someone of his stature any time soon.

Aw...David K...do not know how old you are but you need to study in depth a bit more of history. reagan did not dismantle the health system or any of the other things you seem to apply to him. As to the Republicans dismantling free elections you need to study history a bit more and you will find many instances where this was thought to be true, most recently the election of John Kennedy, who only won with the votes that Mayor Daley of Chicago (a democrat) got him in the election. Those votes turned out to be from thousands of dead people! Nixon did not want to tear the country up by protesting the results, unlike Al Gore who in his zest for power had no thought of the country when he protested the results in Florida. I could go on and talk about Lyndon Johnson and the fake Gulf of Tonkin attack that led to over 50,000 Americans being killed in Vietnam, a country that Eisenhower and JFK warned we should not be involved in, and the demorcratic controlled congress that went along with LBJ even after they found out the truth. My point is start thinking for yourself, investigate, and most of all vote...not as a democrat or a republican, but as an American who questions the "political correct thought" and what he or she sees or reads in the news media, but what he or she has thoroughly investigated and thought out. Only we, the American people, will end up destroying our system. By the way, I am a registered Democrat and did not vote for Reagan or Bush. But in Reagans case, I would if I could do it all over again.

Actually, Morgan Freeman is a good man and would probably be a good president.
on Jun 06, 2004

Yeah Morgan Freeman would be a great President - or - the guy that played the DA in Law and Order and did some ads for some financial institution (Smith Barney? "we do business the old fashioned way" or something like that) don''t know his name but he''d be believable as president too.

Actually if we have to get a politician I''d vote for Charles Rangle and Cynthia McKinney...

John Edwards is at the Bilderberg Conference right now, I assume that means he''ll replace Kerry as the Dem''s candidate or at least be the VP. But that''s only if Kissinger can keep Cheney''s storm troopers at bay for a few more months, the Bilderbergs are losing their grasp

This thread should stay dedicated to Mr. Reagan''s passing, I don''t wish to distract from that. I too wish his family well and though I thought he was a terrible president I offer my condolences to all who knew him and mourn his passing. He did have some good moments and certainly it''s best to remember the good in those who have gone before us.

The only problem I have ever had with Reagan was his terrible decision (and it was a decision) to completely ignore something so terrible as HIV. In the long run, responding to it more quickly would not seem to have changed things much. It seems almost ironic that a man who is dubbed "The Great Communicator" actually communicated so little about something so overwhelming as HIV.

Reagan was the worst thing that EVER happened to middle class America. And prolonged the cold war as long as he could. Gorbechov gets all the credit for ending that in my book. The man had enough nuclear weapons made to blow up the worl a hundred times over and raised MY taxes so he could keep his rich hollywood friends taxes at a minimum. He is NO hero nor should he be thought of as such, and G.W. Bush is right behind him (catching up fast I might add).

You may not agree but Clinton was a better Pres. than Reagan could ever be. His personal problems with cigars and all were pretty interesting but at least he was DOING for the country and not for a few powerful people. I guess thats what happens when the pres get alzheimers (spelling) and a woman is left in charge of the country. (I just couldn't resist this little joke, sorry)

I find it truly interesting that someone with the nick "Satans Child" is impressed with Clinton

I'm just playing SC...please don't take it personal!

BTW...I'll give Clinton one thing...His presidency was far more entertaining than that of any other President. I don't know which was more ridiculous...Clintons shenanigins or the Republicans spending millions of dollars trying to pin him down for his shenanigins...and failing!

Someone starts up a nice little remembrance thread about the passing of one of our nation's most loved leaders and as can be expected.....never mind. It's just typical, please let a grieving nation have, at least, this opportunity to remember him.

Amen to that.

Rest in Peace, Mr. President

Thank you Essencay...... I was going to say something, but it wasn't going to sound as nice as your statement. It is typical of the faction that gave us "Political Correctness" to show no decorum what so ever.

No Hi-Jacking intended...please forgive me...

RIP Mr. President

If you liked him, I admire you because it probably means you're still a little idealistic, warm, caring and a compassionate human being. Of the people who didn't [don't] like him, the only thing I see in common with all of the "haters" is an overall pessimistic and bitter/jaded demeanor. I find these people, when candid, tell you that "the government wants us all dead" or "trees are out to get me!" or something similar. Worst yet, many of these haters can't, using facts, reason and logic, back up their statements OR fully answer "why" they dislike[d] him. If they wish to be uber-cynical I say let 'em... I'll cling to the hope that not everyone in power is out to poison our main watersystems .. Love him or hate him, I'm Canadian and even *I* miss him...

If you would like to leave a message for Mrs. Reagan and family.

To all who do/did not think highly of former President Reagan or his style of governing, I had no intention to open a debate on politics. It is a given that such a diverse group as the WC community will hold many divergent and opposing points of view, most especially where politics is involved. I have no desire to sway anyone from their own particular political leanings, nor to argue the good and bad points President Reagan's presidency, for there were certainly both. What we as a nation are mourning is the loss of a great American who embodied so many of the traditional American values that seem to be eroding in wholesale proportions these days, a man who did so with great grace, wit, and charm. We mourn our loss, for we as a nation are poorer for his passing, but we are richer for the vision he gave us for the future of our country and the whole world. No man is without his flaws, and no man lives long that he does not take actions and make decisions that he could have made better. For all his detractors, Mr. Reagan held no grudges and worked to make his enemies into his friends, usually with great success if you recall how many bi-partisan bills he was able to get through congress. It is my opinion that his belief in America and her people, coupled with his winning charm and sense of humor caused us to raise our own vision for ourselves and our nation. Few people leave the kind of legacy as Mr. Reagan and none without some degree of controversy. Sorry for the long post.
