Yesterday I could only get a "Request timed out while waiting for Wincustomize"

Later I read this article: http://news.com.com/Network+feud+leads+to+Net+blackout/2100-1038_3-5889592.html?part=rss&tag=5889592&subj=news

My ISP is RoadRunner. I was unable to get any Stardock site to load, whether in FF, IE, or using the WC browser.

I logged onto WC from work this morning, expecting to see posts about the server being down or soemthing, but I don't see anyone else posting any problems (if they're able to.)

So, anyone else have RR as their ISP? and if so, have you had any trouble accessing WC or any other sites?

My ISP is Brighthouse as well...but I have Internet Junction. It has affected me as well. I am not able to access this site, Stardock, or Deviant Art. However, I have aol as a back up ISP, and I finally discovered I could get on via it. But, I still can't get on via the Wincustomize browser.

What I learned is that Cogento is in a battle with some of the big ISP's, and not allowing them to access some of the big web sites, like this one. It all depends on where you live, if you are affected. I have no idea when this will be resolved, or what, if anything, we can do.

Hmmm....
I'll have to try bouncing off a proxy server when I get home if I still can't get on here.

On the bright side, maybe it will help WC with some of it's traffic problems if enough people are being cut off from here.

Here is a link to another thread at WC about the same thing. I was unable to get her until tonight since the day before yesterday. I have Road Runner and they said it affected all their customers.

Well, I can get on WC now. I couldn't a couple hours ago.
RR said they were working in alternate routing, guess they must have gotten something done.

Yes...it's an RR issue....I've had several emails asking if WC was down....it ain't.....[clearly]....

No..... It's a Level3/Cogent issue, RR is just getting the blame from their customers like me. Apparently on the 5th Level3 decided they were no longer interested in taking part in peering their network with Cogent. This has caused all of the issues, apparently Cogent has a lot of customers that take advantage of their comparatively low bandwidth costs which is causing the Cogent network to send far more traffic to the Level3 network than Level3 sends to the Cogent network. Anyway, that is apparently what started the rift, we're just the poor suckers who are paying the price..

Here's the link I got some pretty good info from:

The articles on CNet and ZD.net say that Level3 gave 90 days notice that they intended to sever their peering agreement with Cogent. Sounds to me like neither side wants to play nice, and the end consumers (those of us doling out $45-$50 per month for RR)are the ones getting the short end of the stick.
This also has to be hurting businesses who depend on web traffic for their livelihood. Some people also haven't been able to access their Ebay auctions, so there's a ggod deal of $$ being lost out there because these two companies have decided to engage in a large scale pissing match.

RR isn't the only ISP affected, just one of many. Perhaps the largest, perhaps not, but definitely not the only one.

RoadRunner does share some blame here. Most ISP's have a backup Tier 1 provider they can route traffic through when they need to. It may slow things down but at least you can get to where your going. Obviously RR does not have that redundancy and now we subscribers are paying for their short sightedness. I keep have business emails returned as "undeliverable" and I can't access my office intranet from home. I'm thinking seriously about looking into DSL service at the house even though it's a bit slower.

I'mmm baaacckkkkk!
Either RR cut a deal for my area or Level 3 and Cogent settled up.

I use an ISP you probably haven't heard of: Corecomm, and this is the first time in 3 days I've been able to access WinCustomize. My mom, who uses Earthlink as her ISP couldn't get here either. We both use dialup. Go figure that one. We just figured this site either got hijacked and had a Denial of Service, or there was maintenance being done. How could her or I be affected if we don't have Road Runner??

Aaaaaah! I see now. I also had problems at other sites - not being able to get to them for days. I actually thought I caught an 'in the wild' virus. Good to know I didn't. Whew! Thanks, Sir Bichur, for your input.

In my area Earthlink just resells RoadRunner service under their name, at least as far as their cable offering. Their DSL and dial-up offerings are probably the same kind of arrangement.

I was having WC withdrawls, I even thought it was my pc, did everything to I could to make it work right... Was fine...
And now it's nearly perfect, so it got a tune-up, unplanned...
Just glad to be back..
