I recently got a new HDD. I hooked it up as a slave and used Drive Image 7.0 to copy my drive C to the E partition on the new drive using the app included to clone your drive, OS and all to a new one. I ed to make the E drive bootable, according to the directions, as well. I then switched the jumper on the new drive to the Master setting, hooked up the Master IDE cable to it and tried to boot up from the new drive. However that isn't working. I entered the BIOS and confirmed that it is recognizing the new drive as the Master. How do I boot from the new drive? I want to put the old drive in a USB case and use it as portable storage.

yrag...DI7 is capable of transferring an OS without dramas...from within Windows and therefore much more efficiently.

There 'shouldn't' be a need to get additional proggies to do it when DI7 is such a competent master of it...

Isnt that an oxymoron?

Cerebro...try doing things in lower memory in Dos....640k gets you nowhere fast.

With a Gig of DDR3200 400fsb in parallel [800 thruput] you may just find a slight improvement over Dos....

Gee. Paul...I transfer 12/13 GB to my backup drive just shy of 20 minutes...in DOS ...and I get all the files copied, including the Volume Files

yrag thinks there must be a clog in that Aussie DOS

Difference is I can do one while still working within the OS...

Forgot....I don't need a Dos NTFS reader to do it either...

OK...OK...so I'm old fashioned and still like writing DOS commands....so shoot me already

Well, I erased my partitions on the new drive, and reformatted it as one partition. Then defragged C drive, and recopied C onto E. All that with the same results. Everything is hooked up right and the jumpers are right. It's now going on 12:30AM and I have to be up in a few hours, so I'll have another go at it tomorrow. Thanks to all for you suggestions.
Goodnight
...and I think Yrag and China want to be alone.
